HEAT Awards

Recognizing the Best

The Virginia State Police Help Eliminate Auto Theft (HEAT) Program has combined three award competitions into one prestigious, highly competitive program representing four key areas in the fight against vehicle theft:

  • Intelligence
  • Prevention
  • Enforcement
  • Recovery

To be considered for an award, nominees must submit efforts that cover at least two of the four key areas.

A Level Playing Field

The HEAT Awards have been restructured so larger agencies with more resources compete against comparable agencies. Now there will be only four categories, each based upon the size of the population served by the agency. One winning agency will be recognized from each of these categories. In addition, one winning individual will also be recognized in each category. Additional agencies and individuals may be honored as finalists. The categories are:

  • Fewer than 5,000
  • 5,001 to 20,000
  • 20,001 to 100,000
  • 100,000+
