Rotarians Join fight against auto theft

Friday | October 14, 2022

Richmond, VA (October 14, 2022) — First Sgt. Peter Lazear, Virginia State Police HEAT Coordinator, presented two sessions at the 2022 District 7600 Conference, held at the Hilton Richmond Hotel & Spa/Short Pump, Oct, 14-16. He shared facts and figures on the auto theft in Commonwealth and the steps the HEAT program is taking to reduce the incidence of theft. The focus of his presentation was tips that members of the audience can take to prevent auto theft. “The first tip is common sense.” said First Sgt. Lazear. “Lock your car, take your keys, hide your valuables, and park in a well-lit area.”

Last year, more than 11,000 vehicles were stolen in Virginia. But the good news is, there has been a 45% reduction in auto theft — thanks to the efforts of the HEAT Program, working in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies.
